Tottenham Complete £55m Signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of landing one of the most exciting attacking talents in the Premier League, with a £55 million deal agreed for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus. The 24-year-old is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday before putting pen to paper on a six-year contract with Spurs.

It’s a huge move — not just in terms of Kudus’ quality, but because this is the first direct transfer between Tottenham and West Ham since Scott Parker swapped east for north London back in 2011. That alone adds extra weight to what could become a major signing for Spurs heading into the new campaign. Both Chelsea and Newcastle were reportedly tracking Kudus earlier in the window, but the Ghanaian made his intentions clear: he only wants to join Spurs. For a club looking to bring in a versatile forward who can play across the front line, Kudus is a perfect fit. His ability to glide past defenders, create chances, and find the back of the net gives Tottenham a new dimension in attack.

Since arriving in the Premier League from Ajax in the summer of 2023, Kudus has scored 13 goals and picked up 12 assists in 65 appearances — not staggering numbers, but enough to show his potential in a West Ham side that didn’t always suit his style. At Spurs, under the guidance of new head coach Thomas Frank, the expectations are much higher.

Spurs had initially been chasing Bryan Mbeumo, who previously thrived under Frank at Brentford. But the Cameroonian has informed them that his heart is set on a move to Manchester United, who are still in talks after having two bids rejected. Another target, Antoine Semenyo, has meanwhile signed a new long-term deal with Bournemouth. So, while Kudus may not have been the club’s first choice, his arrival is still a big win.

Frank is known to favor players who are tactically flexible and intelligent — two qualities Kudus has in abundance. While he featured mostly on the right wing for West Ham, he plays centrally for Ghana, often as a No. 10. That versatility could prove vital. Frank may look to replicate his success with Mbeumo by playing Kudus on the right, letting him cut in on his stronger left foot, or use him as a central attacking outlet in tight spaces.

There’s a sense at Spurs that Kudus has only scratched the surface in English football. With a clearer tactical role and a manager who believes in him, the hope is that Kudus can explode into the kind of player who was generating serious buzz when he first arrived in England. Spurs fans have seen glimpses of Kudus’ brilliance in claret and blue. Now they’ll be hoping that in lilywhite, with Thomas Frank pulling the strings, those flashes turn into fireworks.
