After a tough few weeks that saw Liverpool crash out of both the FA Cup and Europa League, fans finally have something to cheer about. Mohamed Salah has officially signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027, ending months of speculation over his future. It’s a massive morale boost for the Reds ahead of their important Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday.
While Salah's extension is now done and dusted, two more big names – Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – are still in the spotlight. Among them, Van Dijk appears the more likely to stay, and reports suggest his contract renewal is just around the corner. Speaking on the Media Matters podcast for Anfield Index, journalist Lewis Steele shared some exciting news on Van Dijk's situation. “Virgil said to us in the mix zone that there was progress made on his contract,” Steele said. “The word I got back on that was, yeah, that is very close as well. Not done, again not official, nothing signed, but it is getting very close.”
There’s a feeling that Liverpool might be waiting for the right moment to make it official, perhaps once the league title race is settled. “I don’t know whether they might wait until the title’s officially wrapped up before they do that,” Steele added, hinting that the timing could be strategic. Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the good news, reporting that everything is in place for Van Dijk to sign a new deal that runs until 2027. “Virgil van Dijk will sign his new deal at Liverpool valid until June 2027 very soon, agreement done,” Romano posted on X. “All details of the contract have been sealed, also approved by the lawyers and VVD will put pen to paper before end of the season. Two more years. Salah + Virgil, confirmed.”
With Salah secured and Van Dijk next in line, Liverpool are slowly piecing together the next chapter of their future. All eyes now shift to Trent Alexander-Arnold – will he be the final piece of the puzzle? For now, fans can enjoy knowing that two of their biggest stars are set to stay right where they belong.
