Mo Salah Nears New Liverpool Deal as Contract Talks Reach Final Stages

Mohamed Salah looks set to extend his stay at Anfield, with a new contract reportedly close to being finalized. Talks between Salah and Liverpool have been ongoing for some time, but it now appears both sides are finally nearing an agreement that will keep the Egyptian winger on Merseyside beyond this season.

It’s not just Salah – Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is also believed to be progressing well in negotiations for a fresh deal. Both players’ current contracts are due to expire this summer, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s. But unlike Alexander-Arnold – who is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid – Salah and Van Dijk have made it clear that staying at Liverpool remains their top priority.

Despite the lengthy talks, the club has always remained quietly confident about tying both of them down. There were whispers earlier this week suggesting Salah’s age might see him take a pay cut to stay at Anfield, but sources close to the negotiations have rubbished those claims. A salary reduction has never been on the table. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also chimed in on the situation, tweeting: "Mo Salah, closing in on new deal at Liverpool as agreement is now at the final stages. Club confident to get it done soon, same for Virgil van Dijk who recently confirmed positive progress made. Salah and LFC, expected to continue together."

Salah’s numbers this season certainly back up the club’s desire to keep him. He’s been directly involved in 54 goals for Arne Slot’s team — bagging 32 himself and assisting 22 more. While Salah has occasionally voiced frustration over how long the process has taken, it now seems like a resolution is within touching distance. Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, has been leading discussions with Salah’s long-time agent, Ramy Abbas Issa. Van Dijk has also spoken positively in recent weeks about his talks with the club, suggesting things are heading in the right direction.

As for Alexander-Arnold, his situation appears to be on a different trajectory. Real Madrid are reportedly deep in talks with the right-back, whose deal also ends in June, and the player is said to be keen on a move to Spain. Madrid are expected to formally notify Liverpool once terms are agreed. That being said, Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure won’t affect Salah or Van Dijk’s situations. Each contract is being handled separately, based on each player’s performance and future value. And for now, the mood at Anfield is hopeful. If things go as expected, Liverpool fans could see two of their modern-day icons – Salah and Van Dijk – stay at the club for a few more years.
