After an electrifying ‘league phase,’ the Champions League Playoff draw is finally in, and it hasn’t disappointed. The draw, held in Nyon, has set the stage for some mouthwatering clashes, with all 16 teams now knowing exactly what stands between them and a coveted spot in the Round of 16.
Some absolute heavyweights such as the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, and AC Milan were all in the mix for this highly anticipated playoff draw. And as expected, the draw delivered in spectacular fashion, setting up some mouthwatering clashes between Europe’s elite far earlier than usual. One of the standout ties sees Juventus paired against PSV Eindhoven. As the unseeded side, the Bianconeri will face the tough task of playing the second leg away at the Philips Stadium. Meanwhile, another Italian-Dutch showdown is on the cards, with AC Milan set to battle it out against Feyenoord. Speaking of Italian clubs, defending Europa League champions Atalanta, who finished 9th in the league phase, will go head-to-head with 24th-ranked Club Brugge in what promises to be an intriguing contest.
Besides that, the playoffs also feature an all-French affair, as PSG have been drawn against Champions League newcomers Stade Brestois. Elsewhere, AS Monaco are set to lock horns with Portuguese giants Benfica, a matchup that will surely have neutrals tuning in. Borussia Dortmund, another powerhouse in the draw, will face Sporting CP, while Bayern Munich will make the trip to Scotland for their first-leg clash against Celtic. But while all these fixtures offer plenty of excitement, there’s one clash that towers above the rest – Manchester City vs Real Madrid. The two European giants will square off in the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the fourth consecutive season. However, unlike their previous encounters, which came in the quarterfinals or semifinals, this one arrives far earlier in the competition. Not that anyone’s complaining, though – if anything, it only adds to the spectacle.
First legs: 11th-12th February 2025

Each club will play once on a Tuesday and once on a Wednesday.
The Round of 16 draw will take place on 21st February, where Liverpool and Barcelona will be placed on opposite sides of the bracket. That means we could see them drawn against one of the winners from the ties featuring PSG, Benfica, Monaco, or Brest. As for the knockout rounds, the teams that finished in the top eight during the league phase have been rewarded for their efforts – they will be seeded and will get the advantage of playing the second leg at home. The first legs are scheduled for 4th-5th March while the decisive second legs will take place on 11th-12th March. After the Round of 16 draw, the knockout bracket is set through to the final.
