Thomas Frank Sends Heartfelt Message to Postecoglou in First Interview as Spurs Boss

After what felt like an endless wait through June, Spurs fans finally got to hear from the man now steering the ship — Thomas Frank. First came the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, then the search for a replacement, and finally the official announcement. Now, Frank has broken his silence in his first interview as Tottenham manager, and he opened with a touch of class.

The Dane made sure to pay tribute to his predecessor, who, despite being let go, remains deeply admired by fans and players alike. Postecoglou delivered Spurs their first piece of silverware since 2008, guiding them to a Europa League title, even if the domestic campaign told a different story. Spurs’ league form was nothing short of disastrous, finishing 17th after losing 22 games — a stark contrast to their European triumph.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Frank didn’t hesitate to give credit where it was due. Huge congratulations to the club, to the team (for the Europa League triumph). Huge congratulations to Ange – I think Ange has done something special. He'll forever be a legend in Tottenham," Frank said. "It's important to understand we all stand on the shoulders of others. I'm going in on the foundation Ange built, and his coaching staff, and I'm very humble about that. I'll do my very best to continue the great work he put in."

Frank knows he has a big job ahead — not just maintaining Spurs’ European status, but also fixing their broken Premier League form. One of his biggest challenges will be making the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a tough place for opponents again. Last season, Spurs managed just six wins in 19 home league games. Only Ipswich and Southampton conceded more goals at home.

The new boss is fully aware that the support of the fans will be vital to turning things around. “We’re going on a journey together and on a journey there are ups and downs,” Frank said. “It’s how we get through these ups and downs together. But of course the connection from the team to the fans, from me to the fans, is going to be crucial. And a very important thing is to make our home like a fortress. That can only be the fans and us together — that needs to be an ongoing relationship. I want our home to be very, very difficult to come to.”

With his feet firmly on the ground and his heart in the right place, Thomas Frank has made a strong first impression. Now, the real work begins. The players are set to return for pre-season training in the first week of July. Frank’s first game in charge will come on July 26, when Spurs travel to the outskirts of London to face Luton Town in their opening pre-season fixture. Things ramp up quickly after that, with a mouthwatering showdown against North London rivals Arsenal set for July 31 in Hong Kong. Then, the Lilywhites then fly to South Korea to wrap up their pre-season schedule, where they’ll go head-to-head with Newcastle United and German giants Bayern Munich.

However, Frank’s competitive debut in the Spurs dugout won’t be just any ordinary game — it’ll be a shot at silverware. Spurs meet Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13. Just three days later, Spurs begin their Premier League campaign on home turf, welcoming newly-promoted Burnley to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 16.
