Tottenham Hotspur are wasting no time making a statement in the transfer window. Just a day after sealing a £55 million move for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Spurs have triggered the £60 million release clause of Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White. The 25-year-old is now set for a medical at Hotspur Way on Friday and, barring any late surprises, will become the latest high-profile signing under new head coach Thomas Frank.
Gibbs-White had been on the radar of several top clubs, including Manchester City earlier this year. Pep Guardiola was reportedly keen, with City exploring other creative options like Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki. But it's Spurs who have moved decisively, striking the deal that brings the England international to north London.
Gibbs-White arrives off the back of an impressive campaign with Forest. He played a massive role in helping the club secure a seventh-place finish in the Premier League — and, with it, European qualification via the Conference League. He contributed seven goals and 11 assists last season, underlining his credentials as one of the league’s most consistent attacking midfielders. In total, he's racked up 18 goals and 28 assists in 118 appearances for Forest, and has even captained the team on occasion.
The midfielder joined Forest from Wolves in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth up to £42.5 million. Since then, he’s blossomed into a key figure and earned recognition at the international level with England. His contract was due to run until 2027, but Spurs’ swift action in triggering his release clause has changed the picture.
Thomas Frank, recently appointed as Tottenham’s head coach, has been a long-time admirer of Gibbs-White. The Dane is known for getting the best out of technically gifted and versatile players — and that’s exactly what Gibbs-White offers. The move to Tottenham will also offer the 25-year-old his first taste of Champions League football, following Spurs’ triumph in last season’s Europa League final against Manchester United.
Gibbs-White is expected to complete his medical and finalise personal terms by the weekend. If all goes to plan, he’ll link up with a Spurs squad already buzzing from the Kudus deal and the permanent additions of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, both of whom impressed on loan last season. Japanese defender Kota Takai has also joined the club this summer.
In total, the Kudus and Gibbs-White transfers will cost Spurs £115 million, signalling an aggressive and ambitious start to the Frank era. With Champions League football on the horizon and a refreshed squad taking shape, Tottenham’s summer is heating up — and fast.
