Manchester United Step Up Chase for Bryan Mbeumo with Big-Money Bid

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo with an improved offer for the Brentford winger, believed to be worth over £60 million. The Red Devils are eager to bring the Cameroon international to Old Trafford, especially after watching him light up the Premier League with 20 goals last season. Mbeumo feels ready to take on a new challenge, and United are doing everything they can to get ahead of the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur are very much in the race too. They’ve already tabled a package worth up to £70 million and are using the Thomas Frank connection as a key selling point, with the new Spurs boss keen on a reunion with one of his former stars. United, meanwhile, have come back to Brentford with a bid closer to the Bees' £65 million valuation—offering a higher percentage of the money up front. Negotiations have been ongoing for weeks but recently gained fresh momentum. Sources have told ESPN that Mbeumo is leaning toward a move to United, despite the fact that the club won’t be playing European football next season.

While all this is going on, Mbeumo himself seems to be enjoying the calm before the storm. He’s been posting on Instagram from his offseason adventures, including a visit to Roland Garros and a scenic getaway to Canada—where he also made an appearance at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix. Notably, United defender Leny Yoro liked one of Mbeumo’s posts, only adding fuel to the transfer talk.

New United boss Ruben Amorim wants the deal wrapped up sooner rather than later, with the new season fast approaching and a clash with Arsenal on the opening day. Mbeumo is seen as a key part of Amorim’s tactical rebuild. He envisions the Brentford man as one of two No.10s behind a central striker in his preferred 3-4-2-1 setup, alongside new signing Matheus Cunha. A top-class striker is also on United’s wishlist this summer. If Mbeumo does complete the move, he would become United’s second major addition of the window, following Cunha’s arrival from Wolves. But the spending won’t stop there.

Amorim is determined to overhaul United’s misfiring attack after a disastrous 2024-25 campaign. The club barely avoided relegation—their worst league finish in over half a century—and then suffered the ultimate heartbreak by losing the Europa League final to Spurs. United are set to return to pre-season training on July 7 before jetting off to the U.S. for their summer tour, starting in Chicago.

If all goes according to plan, Mbeumo could be wearing red by then. He’s expected to earn around £200,000 a week should the move go through. United’s first bid of £55 million was turned down, but they now appear much closer to Brentford’s asking price—similar to the £62.5 million they paid for Cunha. This battle between United and Spurs is far from over—but right now, it’s the Red Devils who have the edge.
