Chelsea Set to Land Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens ‘Imminently’

Chelsea are on the brink of completing another major summer signing, with Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens reportedly close to sealing a move to Stamford Bridge.

After guiding Chelsea back into the Champions League in his very first season, Enzo Maresca is being given solid backing by the club’s board—and their latest move could fill a big hole in the squad. Ever since Chelsea decided not to extend Jadon Sancho’s loan, the left-wing position has been up in the air. The Blues have long been chasing Gittens to plug that gap, and it now looks like the 20-year-old is finally on his way to west London.

While Bayern Munich recently threw their hat into the ring, Chelsea have seemingly pulled ahead in the race. According to reliable journalist David Ornstein, a deal is close and could be wrapped up ‘imminently,’ with both clubs continuing talks in the United States during the Club World Cup. Gittens is said to be fully sold on the idea of playing under Maresca, and personal terms with Chelsea have already been agreed. He’s expected to sign a seven-year contract once the clubs finalize the transfer. Dortmund are reportedly ready to let him go for around €65 million.

Chelsea had tried to bring Gittens in before the Club World Cup, but back then, the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement on the fee. Now, it seems that hurdle has been cleared. Still only 20, Gittens enjoyed a breakout season with Dortmund—contributing 12 goals and 5 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. That’s more goals than any of Chelsea’s three main wide players last season.

Just for comparison:

  • Jamie Gittens: 49 games, 12 goals, 5 assists
  • Pedro Neto: 47 games, 8 goals, 9 assists
  • Jadon Sancho: 42 games, 5 goals, 10 assists
  • Noni Madueke: 43 games, 11 goals, 5 assists

Given his age and output, Gittens was always going to attract serious attention. But Chelsea made him their top wide target this summer, especially after Mudryk’s failed doping test – which could result in a four-year ban – and Sancho returning to Manchester United after no permanent deal could be struck.

His quality hasn’t gone unnoticed at Dortmund either. Club captain Emre Can was full of praise for the young winger, even calling him “unstoppable” after some standout performances. Now, Chelsea fans can look forward to seeing Gittens in blue very soon—if all goes to plan, this could be one of the most exciting moves of the summer.
