Manchester United have finally landed their man. After weeks of back-and-forth with Brentford, the Red Devils have reached a £71 million agreement to sign Bryan Mbeumo. The deal will see the 25-year-old forward make the switch to Old Trafford, in what’s set to become the biggest transfer in Brentford’s history.
United first tested the waters with a £55m bid back in early June, only to be knocked back. They returned at the end of the month with a second offer of £62.5m — again, Brentford held firm. But the third time proved to be the charm. United’s final proposal, which includes an initial £65m fee with a further £5m in add-ons, has finally convinced the Bees to part ways with one of their most prized assets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement also includes a long-term contract that runs until June 2030, with an optional extra year until 2031. “Man United wanted the +1 option and it’s been included in the agreement,” Romano reported. For United, it’s a massive step in their ongoing rebuild up front. Mbeumo’s arrival brings proven Premier League experience and productivity. Last season alone, he racked up 20 goals and eight assists across 38 league appearances — a level of output that made him one of the most consistent attacking threats outside the traditional top six.
What makes this transfer even more significant is the fact that Mbeumo chose United ahead of several other Premier League clubs. Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham were all circling, but the Cameroon international made it clear he had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.
Since arriving at Brentford from Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has grown into a fan favourite and one of the most reliable forwards in the league. Across 242 appearances for the Bees, he’s scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists. His move marks the end of a remarkable chapter at Brentford and the start of a new one at one of the world’s biggest clubs. Interestingly, Brentford’s decision to sell Mbeumo comes shortly after they reportedly rejected offers for Yoane Wissa, signalling that they were only prepared to let one of their main attacking threats leave this summer.
At United, Mbeumo is expected to play a major role in manager Ruben Amorim’s plans for the upcoming season. His ability to operate across the front line — on either wing or through the middle — gives United more flexibility in attack. He brings pace, energy, and a sharp eye for goal, something the club has lacked at times in recent campaigns.
After completing Mbeumo’s signing, next on United’s to-do list is wrapping up personal terms and completing the medical. Once that’s done, the club is expected to officially unveil their newest signing. They’ll also likely begin trimming the squad to keep the finances in check after another big-money deal.
