Xavi Simons looks set for a summer exit from RB Leipzig, with the Dutch midfielder eager to test himself in the Premier League. After spending two years with the Bundesliga side, the 22-year-old is pushing for a move, especially after Leipzig failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season.
According to a report from Bild, Simons has now made the English top flight his priority and has even brought in super-agent Ali Barat to help make that happen. Barat is known for his strong ties with English clubs and is reportedly sounding out interest from teams in London in particular.

While Simons has his eyes on the Premier League, he hasn’t ruled out other options just yet. Spanish outlet Sport recently reported that talks have taken place between Simons’ representatives and FC Barcelona about a potential return to the Catalan club. However, Barça’s financial issues have once again become a stumbling block. With their tight wage structure and strict financial fair play limitations, a deal for Simons seems unrealistic for the La Liga giants at the moment.
Bayern Munich have also been keeping tabs on the Dutch international, though he’s said to be more of a fallback option for them behind primary targets like Nick Woltemade and Luis Díaz. Meanwhile, Premier League sides like Manchester United and Chelsea are also in the mix. According to Sport Witness, both clubs have recently held discussions with Simons’ camp. Chelsea might seem a strange fit given the number of attacking players already in their squad, but their interest hasn’t completely cooled. United, on the other hand, are actively looking to bolster their forward line and have shown genuine interest, even if they are currently prioritising other targets such as Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
However, the big sticking point in all of this is the transfer fee. Leipzig reportedly want upwards of €70 million (around £60m or $80m) to part ways with Simons — quite a step up from the €50 million they paid for him. It’s a price tag that’s already turning off a few clubs. Barcelona have pulled out, and even cash-rich Premier League clubs are hesitating.
From Leipzig’s perspective, selling Simons could be key to balancing their transfer books. They’ve already splashed out €92 million this window, and offloading a big asset like Simons would significantly ease their spending pressure. That said, Red Bull-backed Leipzig aren’t exactly short on funds, so they can afford to play hardball.
Simons, who joined Leipzig with high expectations, has impressed in spells but now feels he’s ready for the next step. Missing out on European football seems to have played a big role in his decision to move on. The player’s camp appears confident that a move will happen, with interest from several big-name clubs still on the table. Where Simons ends up remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure — his time at Leipzig is nearing its end, and the Premier League may just be his next destination.
