Joshua Kimmich and Bayern Munich Reach Agreement on a Contract Extension Until 2029

The long-running saga surrounding Joshua Kimmich’s contract extension with Bayern Munich has finally reached a conclusion. After months of speculation and uncertainty, with many German outlets predicting the 30-year-old would leave when his contract expired in June, Bayern and Kimmich have now agreed on a new deal.

Joshua Kimmich’s future at Bayern Munich is finally taking shape after months of uncertainty. The 30-year-old Germany international, who was set to become a free agent this summer, has been free to negotiate with overseas clubs since January. Arsenal were among the teams eager to snap him up. But Despite Arsenal’s interest, Sky Germany reports that both Bayern and Kimmich are keen on extending his stay in Bavaria. Negotiations are still ongoing, but Bayern are determined to finalize the deal, which is expected to run until 2029. The proposed contract reportedly includes an annual salary between €20 million (£17m/$21m) and €22 million (£18m/$23m) gross.

Reports suggest Kimmich and Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, have already reached an agreement on a new contract. However, the final approval was pending from the club’s supervisory board, which convened on Thursday. Reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also reported on the matter. He wrote, “Joshua Kimmich and Bayern have exchanged all documents for new deal valid until June 2029. Agreement in place and deal set to be signed very soon, as BILD reported. Kimmich never advanced in talks with any other club, only approaches — priority to FC Bayern.”

Apart from Arsenal and a verbal agreement with Bayern, Kimmich also had a contract offer on the table from Paris Saint-Germain. It's been reported they offered the versatile star a deal until 2029. Kimmich was asked about his future again after Bayern beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie on Wednesday night and said: “A decision will definitely be made soon. The ball is not in my court. My plan was to do it before the international break. The club wanted it before the two Leverkusen games. I’m noticing that Max [Eberl] is honest and is fighting... My plan was to make my decision before the international break. The club didn’t want that, which is legitimate. I appreciate that they gave me a lot of time. It was important to get off to a good start this season after a difficult last season and build a relationship with each other again."

While contract talks are still ongoing, Joshua Kimmich isn't letting the speculation distract him from his job on the pitch. The German midfielder remains fully focused on Bayern’s title chase and is expected to be in action this Saturday when they take on Bochum in the Bundesliga. With Bayern pushing for domestic glory, Kimmich’s presence in the lineup will be crucial as they look to keep their momentum going.
