Jobe Bellingham Follows Brother Jude to Dortmund in €33m Move from Sunderland

Borussia Dortmund have done it again – five years after signing Jude Bellingham, they’ve now brought his younger brother Jobe to Germany in a deal worth around €33 million. The 19-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

Jobe arrived in Dortmund with his father and advisor, Mark Bellingham, to finalize the move, turning down interest from Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig. According to Sky Sports UK, the deal includes a 15% sell-on clause for Sunderland, and the fee makes it the biggest transfer fee ever received by a newly promoted Premier League side. Without bonuses, Jobe becomes Dortmund’s second-most expensive signing ever, just behind Ousmane Dembélé.

Jobe Bellingham will wear the number 77 at Borussia Dortmund and he’s chosen to have just "Jobe" on the back of his shirt instead of his famous last name. The timing of his move means he’ll get thrown straight into the deep end, joining Dortmund for the Club World Cup in the US. Their first test? A showdown with Brazil’s Fluminense next Tuesday. But there’s a trade-off – Bellingham has pulled out of England’s U21 Euros squad to focus on his new club adventure.

While Jude spent three impressive seasons at Dortmund before his blockbuster move to Real Madrid, Jobe has been carving out his own reputation. After coming through Birmingham City’s academy – just like his brother – he moved to Sunderland in 2023 and played a key role in their promotion back to the Premier League last season. His performances, including four goals and three assists in 43 games, earned him the Championship’s Young Player of the Year award. He played a key role in Sunderland’s dramatic 2-1 playoff final win over Sheffield United at Wembley.

But besides signing Jobe, Dortmund aren’t planning a major squad overhaul this summer. However, with Emre Can’s future uncertain and veteran Pascal Gross not getting any younger, adding a dynamic young midfielder like Bellingham makes sense. He brings energy, defensive solidity, and plenty of room to grow – especially in a club already familiar with his family name.

Given how quickly Jobe has developed since his €1.75m move to Sunderland, and the fact that Dortmund already know what the Bellinghams are capable of, this transfer feels like a smart gamble. Now, the pressure will be on the teenager to step out of his brother’s shadow and make his own mark in the Bundesliga.
