The 2025 winter transfer window has been anything but smooth for Spurs. After facing public rejections from at least three targets, Tottenham are making a bold late push to sign Marc Guehi. However, their "significant bid" for the England international has been turned down by Crystal Palace, who are determined to keep hold of their captain this late in the window.
Fabrizio Romano broke the news this morning on his X account (formerly Twitter), revealing, “Spurs also made a late bid for Marc Guehi in last 48h as top target but Palace rejected, will now run to summer.” Reports suggest Tottenham’s offer was close to Palace’s £60 million valuation, but the Eagles have stood firm, unwilling to lose their captain with less than 24 hours left in the window. However, Spurs haven’t backed down just yet. There’s talk of an even bigger bid incoming—one that could force Palace’s hand, especially with Guehi’s contract set to expire in 2026.
Crystal Palace have plenty on their plate right now, and the last thing they need is the added disruption of losing their captain. With Chelsea recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan and Chadi Riad sidelined with a long-term injury, Palace are already short on defensive options. They’re close to securing Ben Chilwell on loan from Chelsea and have even explored a £35 million move for Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic. But with time running out, parting ways with Marc Guehi this late in the window could seriously jeopardize their season.
This isn’t the first time Palace have fended off interest in Guehi. Last summer, they turned down offers from Newcastle, and there were even whispers that Liverpool were eyeing a move for the 24-year-old. That’s exactly why Spurs don’t want to risk waiting until the summer—especially after Radu Dragusin suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury. Spurs have already bolstered their backline by signing Kevin Danso from RC Lens on an initial loan with an obligation to buy, but they’re still in the market for another defender. They’ve been exploring a loan deal for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, but the Frenchman is reportedly leaning towards a move to Aston Villa and is holding off on committing to North London.
Besides their pressing concerns at the back, Spurs are also looking to sign a winger on deadline day. They have already been rejected by Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, but remain interested in Southampton’s 18-year-old winger, Tyler Dibling. However, with less than 24 hours remaining in the transfer window, Spurs must act quickly to get all the deal over the line before the window slams shut.
