Barcelona Wonderkid Pau Cubarsi Set to Sign a New Deal Until 2030

Lamine Yamal’s dazzling displays have rightly stolen the spotlight, but there’s another La Masia gem quietly making waves since his debut – Pau Cubarsí. But make no mistake, Pau Cubarsi is another generational talent – like Yamal – and the Blaugrana aim to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future. Recent reports suggest that the 18-year-old defender is set to sign a contract extension with the Catalan giants until 2030.

According to several reports, Cubarsi will sign a contract extension with Barcelona on Thursday. The player and his representatives are awaiting the club’s call to finalize the process. The contract renewal of Cubarsi is another step taken by the Barcelona hierarchy to future-proof the playing squad. The Blaugrana have already renewed contracts of Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Pedri and Gavi. Cubarsí’s new contract will see him stay at Barcelona until 2030, finalizing an agreement that was first laid out back in 2024. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the young defender initially signed a three-year deal – the maximum allowed for a youth player at the time – with an automatic two-year extension kicking in once he turned 18 on 22nd January.

Even Fabrizio Romano reported this development via his official X (formerly Twitter) account. The Italian journalist wrote, “Pau Cubarsí, set to formally complete new contract signing at Barça until June 2030. It was already agreed in June on verbal basis and now can be completed as he turned 18 in January. Three more years for Cubarsí, as Jose Alvarez reports.” Cubarsi’s contract extension is certainly a very positive news for Barcelona fans, as a few clubs were circling around the teenager if his deal with Barcelona fell through. But now, Barcelona fans can rest assured that Cubarsi will most likely spend the majority of his prime years with the club.

Pau Cubarsí made his Barcelona debut just over a year ago in a Copa del Rey match, and since then, he’s firmly established himself as an undisputed starter for the Blaugrana. His immense talent hasn’t gone unnoticed on the international stage either – his rapid rise has earned him international recognition, highlighted by a call-up to the Spanish national team. Cubarsí has already won an Olympic gold medal and is now a key player for De la Fuente’s senior national team. It’s clear that Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has full confidence in the young center-back’s abilities.
