In one of the most bizarre and unforgettable moments in international cricket, the UAE women's team pulled off a stunt never seen before — retiring out all ten of their batters in a T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier clash against Qatar in Bangkok. Yes, you read that right. UAE were sitting comfortably at 192 for no loss in 16 overs, and instead of pushing for an even bigger score, they just… stopped.
Captain Esha Oza and her opening partner Theertha Satish were absolutely flying. Oza had stormed her way to a 51-ball hundred — her fourth in T20Is — while Satish was on a blistering 74. The pair had already taken UAE past the 150-mark by the 14th over, and with rain looming and their run rate already sky-high, coach and former UAE men’s player Ahmed Raza decided it was time to wrap things up. Since declaring isn’t allowed in T20s, the only way out was to retire out everyone — including Oza and Satish, who had done all the heavy lifting — plus eight others who never even faced a ball. Just like that, UAE were “all out” for 192 in 16 overs.
It marked the first time in international cricket — men’s or women’s — that more than two players were retired out in a single innings. And it set a strange record too: 192 became the highest total ever posted in a women's T20I by a team that was all out.
Was it a gamble? Sure. But it worked like a charm.
Qatar, chasing an Everest of a target, never stood a chance. Their innings lasted just 11.1 overs, crumbling to a meek 29 all out. The collapse was brutal — seven ducks, just two batters reaching double figures, and an overall performance they’ll want to forget in a hurry. The match, from start to finish, lasted only 27.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Michelle Botha was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 11, and once Qatar’s opener Rizpha Bano Emmanuel — who top-scored with 20 — was run out in the eighth over, the rest of the lineup folded quickly. From 26 for 5, they added just three more runs. That’s how dominant UAE were.
Interestingly, even the UAE innings had eight ducks on the scorecard — all of them without facing a delivery. That meant the match saw a combined 15 ducks, the most ever in a women’s T20I. The result? A crushing 163-run win for UAE, their second straight victory in the Asia Qualifier, and a big boost to their net run rate — a factor that could be crucial as the tournament progresses. More importantly, it gave them a firm grip on qualification to the Super Three stage.
