Sunil Narine Smashes 100 Sixes in IPL

Sunil Narine continues to etch his name in IPL history, adding another milestone to his already impressive career with Kolkata Knight Riders. During KKR’s season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on 22nd March, the West Indian all-rounder became only the third player to smash 100 sixes for the franchise.

Narine reached the landmark in style, launching three sixes in his 26-ball 44. He put together a century stand with Ajinkya Rahane for the second wicket before eventually falling on the last ball of the 10th over, dismissed by Rasikh Salam. His knock featured five fours and three sixes, with his third maximum marking the moment he joined KKR’s elite six-hitters club.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Narine now has 100 IPL sixes, putting him alongside Nitish Rana (107) and Andre Russell (206) as the franchise’s top six-hitters. Across the league, he became the 38th player to reach this milestone, joining an exclusive club led by Chris Gayle, who sits at the top with 357 sixes. Others in the top five include Rohit Sharma (280), Virat Kohli (272), MS Dhoni (252), AB de Villiers (251), and David Warner (236).

However, before reaching his milestone, Narine had a bizarre moment of drama. In the seventh over, he accidentally knocked off a bail with his bat while attempting to play a short ball from Rasikh Salam. The delivery was already called a wide, and while there was a half-hearted appeal from RCB for hit-wicket, the umpire had already ruled the ball dead. Another possible reason for the appeal being dismissed was that the ball had already reached wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma’s gloves, making the dismissal void.
