Sunrisers Hyderabad fans, the wait is almost over! Captain Pat Cummins has shared a massive injury update, officially targeting a return for the "back half and finals" of IPL 2026. Recovering from a lumbar stress injury, the Aussie icon is already bowling every third day in the nets. While Ishan Kishan leads the charge early on, Cummins' postseason comeback could be SRH's ultimate championship X-factor.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp has received a massive shot of adrenaline just as the IPL 2026 season kicks into gear. In a move that has sent waves of optimism through the "Orange Army," regular captain and Australian pace icon Pat Cummins has officially broken his silence regarding his return to the field.
Recovering from a persistent lumbar stress injury that sidelined him during the 2026 T20 World Cup, Cummins is now laser-focused on a return for the "back half and the playoffs" of the current season.
For fans worried about his fitness, the news is incredibly encouraging. Cummins is already with the SRH squad in Bengaluru, where he has resumed high-intensity training.
"I'm feeling great, and the progress has been steady," Pat Cummins shared. "Currently, I'm bowling in the nets every third day. The goal is to build up the workload so I'm at 100% capacity when the tournament reaches its business end."
The lumbar bone stress, a common but tricky injury for fast bowlers, required a period of complete rest. However, his presence in the dugout is already providing a mental boost to the younger bowlers in the squad.
While Cummins works on his "Mission Comeback," the leadership mantle has been handed to explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan. Backed by Abhishek Sharma as his deputy, Kishan's aggressive captaincy style is expected to keep the SRH momentum high during the initial phase.
Cummins has been vocal in his support for the interim leader: "Ishan has a great cricketing brain, and the energy he brings is infectious. I'll be right there in the dugout to support him until I'm back on the pitch".
By targeting the second half of the season, SRH is ensuring they have their most experienced campaigner fresh for the knockout stages.
The Sunrisers finished the 2025 season with strong momentum, and having Cummins back for the 2026 finals could be the missing piece of the championship puzzle. With a career IPL strike rate of 152.24 with the bat and 79 wickets to his name, he remains one of the few genuine match-winners who can change a game in a single over.
The countdown to the "back half" has officially begun. Can Pat Cummins lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad to their second IPL title? The stage is set for a Hollywood-style return.
