No Sleeveless Jerseys in IPL 2025 – BCCI Imposes Restrictions with Penalties

The BCCI has decided to extend some of its recently introduced SOPs for Team India to the IPL ahead of the 2025 season, placing stricter regulations on player travel and dressing room access. While the IPL’s multi-team format prevents a complete implementation of these rules, certain aspects – like mandatory team bus travel and restricted dressing room access for families – even on non-match days – will now apply to all 10 franchises.

Following India’s Test series defeat in Australia, the BCCI rolled out new guidelines that barred personal managers from team buses and limited the presence of players’ families on tour. Now, a similar approach is being taken in the IPL. A BCCI note sent to team managers recently stated: "Players to use the team bus while coming for practice. Teams may travel in two batches."

The new regulations will be enforced from the very start of the IPL, which kicks off on 22nd March in Kolkata with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

On top of travel restrictions, players will also need to adhere to stricter dress codes, especially during post-match presentations. Forgetting an accreditation card at the venue or showing up in inappropriate attire – such as sleeveless jerseys or floppies – will result in penalties. "Failure to do so will result in a warning on the first instance. On the second instance, there will be a financial penalty," the BCCI confirmed.

As for family members, they won’t be allowed anywhere near the dressing room – even on practice days. "On practice days (during pre-tournament & tournament), only accredited staff is allowed in the dressing room and on the field of play. Player family members and friends to travel in a different vehicle and can watch team practice from the hospitality area." Additionally, for extended support staff such as throwdown specialists or net bowlers, teams must submit a list for BCCI approval. "Once approved, non-match day accreditations will be issued for the same," the BCCI added.
