After 10 long years, MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin are back in yellow together. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reunion is finally happening, with Ashwin joining the team’s preparatory camp ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).
For CSK fans, this is pure nostalgia. Ashwin and Dhoni are a huge part of the franchise’s rich history, having played key roles in their back-to-back IPL triumphs in 2010 and 2011. Now, after stints with Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals, the legendary off-spinner is returning to where it all began – Chepauk. CSK added to the excitement by sharing an emotional video on X, showcasing Ashwin’s journey from a young cricketer playing at Chepauk to becoming one of India’s finest spinners. The franchise brought him back into the fold at the IPL 2025 auction for ₹9.75 crore, setting the stage for his highly anticipated reunion with Dhoni and former India bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja.

Reflecting on his return, Ashwin couldn’t hide his emotions: “They say life is a circle. I played for them from 2008 to 2015. I am always indebted to them. Whatever I learnt at CSK then has propelled me this far in international cricket. It’s been 10 years since I played for CSK.” Ashwin – who announced his retirement from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar trophy – stated that he still plans to play for CSK for a long time. During an interview, he stated, “I am going to play for CSK, and don't be surprised if I try and aspire to play for as long as I can. I don't think Ashwin the cricketer is done. I think Ashwin the Indian cricketer has probably called it time. That's it."
With a record-breaking sixth IPL title in sight, CSK are already deep into their preparations. Dhoni, new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and the rest of the squad have arrived at the team’s base camp, gearing up for what promises to be an electrifying season. The much-awaited homecoming will be even more special as CSK kick off their IPL 2025 campaign with a blockbuster clash against Mumbai Indians at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on 23rd March.
