MS Dhoni Creates History with 200 Dismissals in IPL

MS Dhoni just keeps rewriting the record books. On Monday night in Lucknow, the Chennai Super Kings icon reached yet another incredible milestone during their clash against Lucknow Super Giants — becoming the first player in IPL history to notch up 200 dismissals as a wicketkeeper.

The historic moment came when Dhoni swiftly stumped Ayush Badoni off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. He was already well ahead of the pack in the dismissals tally, with Dinesh Karthik trailing behind on 182. But this stumping just further solidified Dhoni’s legacy as the most effective keeper in the league’s history. And Dhoni wasn’t done. He pulled off two more brilliant moments behind the stumps. First came a slick piece of fielding to run out Abdul Samad. It wasn’t a flashy moment — just sharp awareness and execution. Spotting the opportunity, Dhoni casually lobbed the ball underarm to the bowler’s end and hit the stumps dead-on, sending Samad back after a quickfire 20 off 11 balls. 

Then, on the very next delivery, he was in action again — this time with the gloves. Rishabh Pant, who had been playing a brilliant innings, fell to Matheesha Pathirana, caught behind by Dhoni for 63. It capped off a brilliant little spell for the CSK veteran, whose presence once again proved game-changing. 

 Meanwhile, Pant continues to make waves himself. Since moving to Lucknow Super Giants after a long stint with Delhi Capitals — where he also captained — he’s shown signs of rediscovering his rhythm. His name now features prominently on the wicketkeepers’ dismissals list too, with 102 to his name since debuting in 2016. 

But this night belonged to Dhoni. Even in the twilight of his career, he's showing the same sharpness, calm, and match-winning instincts that have defined him for over a decade and a half. Just another reminder of why he's considered the best to ever do it behind the stumps in the IPL.
