The early stages of the 2025 Champions Trophy have been dominated by Batsmen. But this doesn’t mean that fans haven’t witnessed some stellar bowling performances. In fact, some bowlers have dominated their matchups with batsmen and have even notched up multiple four-wicket hauls. However, two bowlers are leading the pack at this early stage of the competition.
Both Mohamed Shami and New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell are leading the race for most wickets in the competition with five wickets each. During India’s Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Bangladesh in Dubai, Mohammed Shami carved out a piece of history, becoming India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in 50-over ICC tournaments. The fiery pacer produced a sensational five-wicket haul, taking his tally to 60 wickets and surpassing the legendary Zaheer Khan, who had 59 wickets in 32 innings. What makes Shami’s achievement even more remarkable is the speed at which he reached this milestone – he took just 19 innings to break Zaheer Khan’s record.
However, Shami couldn’t add to his tally in India’s high-stakes showdown against Pakistan, going wicketless. But that didn’t stop India’s bowling unit from stepping up, as they bundled Pakistan out for just 240 before comfortably chasing the target to seal a six-wicket win. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell had a quiet start to the tournament, picking up just one wicket in their opening win over Pakistan. But he found his rhythm against Bangladesh, tearing through their batting lineup with a stunning four-wicket haul for just 26 runs. With performances like these, the tournament is already proving to be a stage for bowlers to leave their mark.
