With the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) fast approaching, excitement is building not just for the cricket, but for the spectacular opening ceremony that could take place across all 13 venues. Reports suggest that the BCCI is planning to bring the opening ceremony experience to fans at every stadium, making it one of the biggest season launches in IPL history. However, there’s no official confirmation yet on whether this will happen at every venue.
This isn’t the first time the BCCI has attempted something this grand. Back in 2017, to celebrate IPL’s 10th season, opening ceremonies were held at each of the eight participating venues. But if this year’s event goes ahead as expected, it promises to be even bigger, featuring a star-studded lineup of artists performing at different locations, with local and national celebrities joining in.
The first ceremony is set to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata before the tournament opener between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on 22nd March. Fans attending the match could witness performances from singers Shreya Ghoshal and Karan Aujla, along with actress Disha Patani. Adding to the spectacle, Bollywood megastars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are rumored to be attending. While Shah Rukh, the owner of KKR, is expected to be there in support of his team, Salman might take the stage to promote his upcoming film, "Sikandar."
BCCI officials, including ICC Chairman Jay Shah, are also expected to attend, along with other high-profile dignitaries. Sourav Ganguly, former India captain and ex-BCCI president, expressed his excitement about Eden Gardens hosting such a grand event, saying, "It’s a marquee match with full demand for tickets. Eden Gardens is set to host an opening ceremony after a long time." However, he remained tight-lipped about further details, keeping the element of surprise intact.
The IPL 2025 opening ceremony is expected to begin 35 minutes before the toss, which is scheduled for 7 PM IST on 22nd March.
With cricket, entertainment, and Bollywood colliding on one of the grandest stages, IPL 2025 is set to kick off in unforgettable fashion. Fans across India will be eagerly waiting to see if the BCCI can pull off this ambitious plan and make this season’s launch one of the biggest in IPL history.
