Heading into their final group-stage clash against England in Karachi, South Africa knew they had one simple task – avoid losing by a staggering 207 runs or more to book a spot in the semi-finals. In the end, they did so with ease, booking their place even before having to bat. After bowling England out for just 179, the Proteas officially became the fourth and final team to make the last four of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Joining South Africa in the semis are India, Australia, and New Zealand – the same four teams who qualified for the semis of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Having said that, this year’s Champions Trophy has been a rollercoaster ride for cricket fans, but unseasonal rain has played a huge role in shaping the tournament. South Africa’s game against Australia was washed out, while Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan also had crucial matches impacted by the weather. Australia, in particular, saw two games abandoned, but their emphatic win over England in their only full match ensured their progression.

While the semi-finalists are locked in, the matchups are still up in the air. The fixtures will only be confirmed after the India-New Zealand showdown in Dubai. Based on the format, the first-placed team in Group A will face the second-placed team in Group B and vice versa. That means even if South Africa top Group B, they could still end up facing India – something they’d ideally want to avoid, given they’ve played all their matches in Pakistan so far.
The first semi-final will take place in Dubai on 4th March (Tuesday), followed by the second semi-final in Lahore on 5th March (Wednesday). As for the grand finale, if India make it, the title clash will be held in Dubai. But if they fall short in the semis, Lahore will host the final on 9th March (Sunday).
