After lighting up the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with a stunning 90* against UP Warriorz on 24th February, the Australian star suffered a rare failure against Gujarat Giants, falling for her first-ever WPL duck.
The crucial moment came on the final ball of the second over. It was a slightly short delivery targeting the stumps, inviting Perry to rock back and pull. But she couldn’t get any timing on it. The ball caught the top edge and looped towards square leg, where Tanuja Kanwar calmly positioned herself and took a safe, head-high catch.

Surprisingly, this was only the second time an off-spinner had dismissed Perry in the WPL. The last time? Deepti Sharma back in 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium. Until this game, Perry had been a run-scoring machine, racking up 835 runs across 22 WPL matches without ever getting out for zero. She had also notched seven half-centuries—joint-most in WPL history alongside Meg Lanning.
Heading into this match, Perry was firmly in the race for the Orange Cap, trailing only Mumbai Indians’ Nat Sciver-Brunt (254 runs). With 235 runs at an astonishing average of 78.33, she was right in the mix to reclaim the top scorer’s crown. One bad day won’t change that, but it’s a reminder that even the best can have an off day.
