Corporate Premier League Season 2 2025

Cricket in India is more than a sport – some even say that it’s religion. But as we grow older, the game we once played every day starts slipping away, overshadowed by the demands of careers and responsibilities. For many working professionals, cricket takes a backseat, squeezed out by deadlines, meetings, and long work hours.

However, passion never fades. No matter how packed life gets, true cricket lovers always find a way to sneak in a game, whether it’s a quick net session after work or a weekend match with friends. That’s exactly where the Corporate Premier League (CPL) comes in. Designed to bring the sport back into the lives of busy professionals, CPL creates the perfect platform for them to reconnect with the game they love

Started in October 2024, the founders -- Sumit Chaubey, Abhishek Singh, Shivank Sharma and Manish Sharma – aimed to create a platform for corporate players where they can enjoy the thrill of cricket with friendly and competitive spirit. The tournament started with humble beginnings, as only four teams participated in the inaugural season of the CPL. These four teams – namely Black Panthers, PropBucks Realty Cricket Club, Mystery Cricket Club, Great Warriors -- played 15 matches as scheduled by management.

After a thrilling round-robin style league phase, the Black Panthers emerged victorious and became the first winners of the CPL. On their way to the title, the Black Panthers won each of their six league phase matches. Coming in as a distant runner-up, PropBucks Realty Cricket Club finished the league phase with 2 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. The league phase was rounded off by Mystery Cricket Club, who finished third with 5 points, and Great Warriors.

Get Ready for Season 2 of CPL

Season 2 of CPL promises to be bigger, better and even more engaging than the first edition of the tournament. With the number of teams increasing from 4 to 12, fans and viewers can expect more competitive and thrilling matches. The tournament kicks off with the group stage, where the teams are divided into four pools of three. Each team plays the others in its pool in a round-robin format, ensuring fair and balanced competition before progressing to the next phase.

From the group stage, the top two teams from each pool advance to the Super 8 stage, where the intensity rises, and every match becomes crucial. The Super 8 winners then move on to the playoffs, where the battle for the championship truly heats up. The semi-finalists not only get a shot at the title but also earn cash prizes based on their final standings. Each match is played in the fast-paced T20 format, with 20 overs per innings. The much-anticipated auction for the second edition of the Corporate Premier League is set to take place tomorrow in Noida, and the excitement is through the roof. With over 150 players throwing their hats into the ring for the mega-auction of CPL Season 2, teams will be looking to build the perfect squad for the upcoming season. The auction will be broadcasted live on Mystery Cricket Club's official YouTube channel as well as Zero Sports' YouTube channel. But with so much at stake, what are the rules that will shape this high-stakes auction?

Auction Rules

Each team in the Corporate Premier League auction will have a purse of 1 crore points to build their squad. With a maximum squad size of 17 players, team owners and management will have to be strategic in their bidding to assemble a balanced and competitive lineup.

Before the auction kicks off, each team is allowed to retain or directly pick up to three players. This gives teams a chance to hold on to their core players and build around them. Additionally, players have the opportunity to choose a preferred team. However, if another team secures their bid during the auction, the preferred team will have the Right to Match (RTM) option, allowing them to match the bid and retain the player.

In case of injuries, teams can bring in replacements from the pool of unsold players. However, there are specific conditions that must be met. The replacement player must have a lower strike rate and average than the injured player. For bowlers and all-rounders, the replacement must also have a lower economy rate and strike rate to maintain a fair competitive balance.
