Updates on New Zealand’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is around the corner. New Zealand becomes the first country to announce their squad for the tournament. Check out the latest updates!

New Zealand announced their squad of 15 players for the 9th season of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2024 in June. Not to be complacent this time, the squad has more experienced players like Kane Williamson as the captain, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee.

What makes these three more experienced?

It will be Williamson’s 6th T20 World Cup and 4th as the captain. Tim Southee and Trent Boult will be playing their 7th and 5th tournament respectively.

There isn’t anything much for the cricket enthusiasts looking for something special in the squad. Considering the injury, the essential pacer Kyle Jamieson and all-rounder Adam Milne will not be part of the squad. Both are suffering from back and ankle injuries respectively.

The top-order batsman, Colin Munro is back in action. The selectors are also interested in including the young player Rachin Ravindra with pacer Matt Henry.

As a reserve, the team is choosing the pacer Ben Sears and will be taking him to the USA and West Indies.

The New Zealand Coach, Gary Stead has a firm belief and optimism in the selection. As per him, the squad is balanced, and they can showcase a great performance.

After the tournament’s commencement, New Zealand will be playing their first match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 against Afghanistan in Guyana on June 8.

NZ is Back with the Retro Jersey

New Zealand Cricket has uncovered its new jersey for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 after the announcement of the squad.

The authorities decided to bring back the retro jersey, known to acknowledge tribute to the 1999 World Cup jersey.

This fresh jersey includes a mix of traditional black colors with grey, giving nostalgia from the early 90s. The classic, fern graphic is no longer a part of the jersey. The Southern Cross (national heritage) has replaced the fern.

It is quite surprising for a team renownedly called as “Black Caps,” to exclude the black from their jersey. There is polarization on the internet now! Black has been an essential part of Kiwis' jersey for years now but it seems like the authorities want a change.
