Chamari Athapaththu - ICC Women’s No.1 Batter in ODI Ranking

Chamari Athapaththu is making her mark on women's cricket history by breaking records and setting milestones. There is no limit to what humans can achieve.

When a person achieves his full potential in any space, their performance becomes delightful to witness. Chamari Athapathu has become the epitome of excellence in Women's International cricket. She is setting a path for the young and potential women cricketers to shine bright.

Chamari is now the world’s number-one ODI batswoman.

Following the 2024 Sri Lanka Women's Tour of South Africa final, Chamari accomplished her goal. There has never been a higher chasing score in Women's One-Day Internationals than Chamari's (195*) runs, which ranks third all-time.

Eventually, Sri Lanka won the final match in Potchefstroom on 17 April.

Chamari’s knock was special, it broke multiple records. It became the second-highest individual score in an ODI’s second innings across Men’s and Women’s cricket. The first one is registered by Glenn Maxwell. The Australian batter scored (201*) against Afghanistan at World Cup 2023.

Let’s see what other records Chamari Athapathu has in her account.

  • Two heads are better than one, which often applies in the game of cricket. Laura Wolvaardt and Chamari Athapaththu became the first partners to score more than (175) runs in the same ODI, across both Men’s and Women’s cricket.
  • In the Women’s ODI space, Chamari is now the world’s first batter with multiple solo scores of (175+) runs. She scored (178) runs confronting Australian bowlers in a World Cup 2017 match.
  • While playing for the Sri Lanka National Team, Athapaththu has made the most hundreds in Women’s ODI’s.
  • The partnership between Athapaththu and Nilakshiika Silva is the second-highest for the fifth or lower wicket in Women’s ODIs.

The runs made by Athapaththu and Nilakshika Silva’s partnership hold the record for the second-highest score for the fifth or a lower wicket in women's ODIs. Jane Smit and Claire Taylor’s partnership holds the first spot with 188* against Sri Lanka in 2000.
