Founded in 1950, the club took time to establish itself as a powerhouse, but once they did, Lyon became synonymous with success in Ligue 1. Their golden era kicked off in the early 2000s when they clinched an unprecedented seven consecutive league titles from 2002 to 2008. Located in the vibrant city of Lyon, the team’s home ground is the Groupama Stadium, a modern arena that holds over 59,000 fans.

Under the presidency of Jean-Michel Aulas, who took over in 1987, Lyon transformed into a financial and sporting giant. Aulas’ vision, combined with shrewd investments and a top-tier youth academy, produced talents like Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, and Nabil Fekir, who went on to make waves in European football.

While Lyon dominated domestically, they also made a name for themselves in Europe. Although they haven’t won the UEFA Champions League, their best run came in 2010 when they reached the semi-finals, famously defeating Real Madrid along the way. Consistently qualifying for Europe’s top competition has been a hallmark of their success, making them a club that commands respect across the continent.

However, the club’s women’s team has arguably been even more dominant. Olympique Lyonnais Féminin is one of the most successful women's football teams in history, winning numerous Division 1 Féminine titles and multiple UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies.
