Founded in 1880 as St. Mark's, the club became Manchester City in 1894, marking the beginning of its legacy. For much of the 20th century, City experienced a mix of highs and lows. They won their first FA Cup in 1904, but their true golden era came in the late 1960s and early 1970s, under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison. City claimed the First Division title in 1968, followed by an FA Cup, League Cup, and a European Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1970. This period established City as a serious competitor, though their success was often overshadowed by their cross-town rivals, Manchester United.

The club's fortunes declined throughout the 1980s and 1990s, even suffering relegation to the third tier of English football in 1998. But City’s story took a dramatic turn in 2008 when the Abu Dhabi United Group acquired the club. With new financial backing, City embarked on an ambitious project to reach the pinnacle of world football. Major signings like Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, and David Silva soon followed, and the club began its resurgence. Under Roberto Mancini, City clinched their first Premier League title in 2012 in one of the most dramatic finales in history—Agüero's last-minute goal against QPR securing the title. This marked the dawn of a new era.

The arrival of Pep Guardiola in 2016 elevated the club to an even higher level, with his tactical genius has won six Premier League titles, along with multiple FA Cups and League Cups. Guardiola’s City broke numerous records, including the first Premier League team to reach 100 points in a single season (2017-18). City’s crowning achievement came in 2023 when they completed a historic treble—winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.
