Inter Milan, known as Internazionale or simply Inter, has one of the richest histories in world football. Founded in 1908, the club was born from a split with AC Milan over a disagreement on signing foreign players. This very idea of internationalism became a core part of Inter's identity, a club always open to talents from around the globe.
Inter's trophy cabinet is impressive. Domestically, they’ve won 20 Serie A titles, making them one of Italy's most successful clubs. Their golden era came under the legendary Helenio Herrera in the 1960s, when La Grande Inter dominated Italian and European football. Under Herrera's innovative catenaccio system, they won two European Cups (now the Champions League) and three Serie A titles, becoming a force to be reckoned with.
The 2000s saw another resurgence, especially under José Mourinho, who delivered a historic treble in 2010. That year, Inter won the Serie A, Coppa Italia, and UEFA Champions League, becoming the first and only Italian team to achieve such a feat. Mourinho’s charismatic leadership and tactical brilliance made that team a global powerhouse, with stars like Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito, and Samuel Eto'o playing pivotal roles.
While the years following their 2010 triumph were filled with ups and downs, Inter never lost their fighting spirit. After a decade-long title drought, the club reclaimed the Scudetto in 2021 under Antonio Conte, ending Juventus' nine-year dominance. After taking over from Conte, Simone Inzaghi has maintained Inter’s excellence. During his three-years in charge, Inzaghi has already led the Nerazzurri to their 20th Scudetto, along with an appearance in the 2023 Champions League final. Although they failed to with the cup, their run to the final re-established Inter as a dominant force in European football.
