AS Roma was founded in 1927 with the ambition of creating a team that could rival the northern powerhouses like Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter. Formed through the merger of three local clubs—Fortitudo, Roman, and Alba-Audace—Roma quickly became the pride of Italy's capital. The club's iconic colors of maroon and gold represent the history and grandeur of ancient Rome, with their emblem featuring the legendary she-wolf from Rome’s founding myth.

Roma’s journey through Italian football has been filled with drama, passion, and moments of brilliance. Their first major triumph came in 1942, when they won their inaugural Serie A title, a historic victory that marked their arrival on the national stage. However, success didn’t come easily for the club in the decades that followed. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Roma experienced a golden era, spearheaded by stars like Paulo Roberto Falcão and Bruno Conti. Under the guidance of Swedish manager Nils Liedholm, Roma won their second Scudetto in 1983 and reached the European Cup final in 1984, only to lose heartbreakingly to Liverpool on penalties.

The fierce rivalry with Lazio, known as the "Derby della Capitale," remains one of the most heated and emotional derbies in world football. These encounters divide the city of Rome and turn the Stadio Olimpico into a boiling cauldron of passion, with both sets of fans delivering an unmatched atmosphere.

The early 2000s brought Roma back into the spotlight. Led by the legendary Francesco Totti—who became the club’s talismanic figure—Roma captured their third Serie A title in 2001 under Fabio Capello’s management. Totti’s unwavering loyalty to the club, despite tempting offers from Europe’s elite, cemented his status as a symbol of Roma’s spirit and identity.

More recently, Roma has continued to fight on both domestic and European fronts, with notable achievements like winning the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022 under José Mourinho. However, the Giallorossi have fallen behind their rivals in terms of trophies and accomplishments in the 21st century. But under the ambitious ownership of US-based Friedkin Group, the future is looking promising once again.
