Founded in 1899 by Englishman Herbert Kilpin and a group of football enthusiasts, the club has become synonymous with success, particularly in Europe. From the red and black stripes of the famous Rossoneri jersey to the revered San Siro Stadium, AC Milan’s legacy is woven into the very fabric of football history.

Domestically, Milan have been a dominant force in Italian football, securing 19 Serie A titles. Their rise to prominence began in the 1950s and 1960s when they won four league titles and two European Cups. However, it was the late 1980s and early 1990s under the visionary management of Arrigo Sacchi and later Fabio Capello, when Milan truly became a global powerhouse. Sacchi’s revolutionary style of pressing and tactical innovation, combined with the genius of players like Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, and Franco Baresi, led Milan to two consecutive European Cup triumphs in 1989 and 1990.

The success didn’t stop there. The 2000s saw the club once again dominate Europe, with stars like Paolo Maldini, Andriy Shevchenko, and Kaká leading Milan to Champions League glory in 2003 and again in 2007. The 2007 victory, in particular, was sweet revenge, as Milan defeated Liverpool, avenging their dramatic 2005 final loss in Istanbul. The win solidified their status as one of Europe’s elite clubs, with a total of seven Champions League trophies—the second-most in history.

Despite facing financial difficulties and a dip in form throughout the 2010s, Milan never lost its allure. Recent years have seen the club rise again, winning the 2021-2022 Serie A title under Stefano Pioli, bringing hope of a new era of success.
