Tottenham’s Rodrygo Links Stir Speculation but Brazilian Forward Unlikely to Leave Madrid for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a sensational move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, though reports suggest the deal may be more complicated than it first appeared.

Rodrygo’s future at Madrid has been uncertain ever since Xabi Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the dugout. While the Brazilian was a trusted starter under Ancelotti, he has seen his importance drop under the new regime, even struggling for minutes at the FIFA Club World Cup. That uncertainty has sparked speculation over a potential exit, with Spurs being named as one of the clubs keeping a close watch.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Tottenham have already laid the groundwork for a possible approach and even sought permission from Real Madrid to hold talks with the 24-year-old. The report suggested Spurs hoped to sell him on their project under new head coach Thomas Frank, who has already seen the club make a series of moves this summer.

However, the story quickly took another turn. Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez was the first to report Tottenham’s interest, but his claim has since been refuted by several other journalists. The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana was quick to clarify: “Despite reports in Spain, Tottenham are not looking at players in Rodrygo’s position, and he would not be interested in a move there.” Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna echoed the sentiment, adding that while Spurs may have inquired about the Brazilian, no talks are currently underway and Rodrygo has no desire to join the North London club.

That said, Madrid’s willingness to listen to offers adds another layer of intrigue. Rodrygo still has three years left on his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the Spanish giants appear open to letting him leave for the right price. With his role diminished under Alonso and competition fierce in Madrid’s frontline, the player’s situation is being closely monitored across Europe.

Tottenham, for their part, have already been active in the transfer market, but fans still feel there is work to do. This summer, Spurs have confirmed Mohammed Kudus and Kota Takai as new arrivals, while making permanent the deals for Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, both of whom were on loan last season. Luka Vuskovic, meanwhile, signed two years ago and only just returned from a loan spell at Westerlo. Despite those additions, many believe more proven quality is needed if Spurs are to push forward under Frank — and Rodrygo, at least on paper, would fit the bill.

Whether or not the Brazilian forward would be open to swapping Madrid for North London remains the key stumbling block. For now, it seems Tottenham’s inquiry has not gone beyond that, and Rodrygo himself is not entertaining the idea of a move. But with a month left in the window, his future is one of several storylines worth keeping an eye on.
