Theo Hernández Set for Big-Money Switch to Al-Hilal

Theo Hernández looks set to bring his six-year spell at AC Milan to an end, with a big-money move to Al-Hilal now edging closer. Talks between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, with the Saudi outfit expected to pay around €30 million for the French full-back.

Sources in Italy have confirmed that Hernández has agreed to personal terms with Al-Hilal and has now given the green light to a move many thought he’d reject just a few weeks ago. He’s expected to earn around €20 million per season on a long-term deal — a bump from the €18 million he initially turned down earlier this month. It wasn’t always a straight shot to Saudi Arabia for the 27-year-old. Atlético Madrid made a strong push to bring him back to Spain and were able to convince the player — but couldn’t match Milan’s price tag, which saw them back out of the race. That left the door wide open for Al-Hilal, who came back in with a renewed approach, this time led directly by club president Fahad bin Nafel.

While there were a few lingering doubts on Hernández's end about leaving Europe, the situation at Milan nudged him further towards accepting the offer. With just a year left on his contract and new manager Massimiliano Allegri not counting him in his plans, Milan made it clear they were open to selling. His agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, has been working closely with intermediary Federico Pastorello to wrap up the deal.

As it stands, only a few final details need ironing out between the two clubs before it’s official. Once that happens, Hernández will leave San Siro after joining the Rossoneri from Real Madrid in 2019. Over his time in Italy, he developed into one of the best attacking left-backs in Europe.

Now, for the first time in his career, he’s preparing to step away from European football. His move to Al-Hilal will not only see him play in the Saudi Pro League but also feature in the newly-formed AFC Champions League Elite competition. For Milan fans, it marks the end of an era. For Theo Hernández, it’s the beginning of a new chapter — and a very lucrative one at that.
