The summer transfer window may still be a little way off, but Manchester United look like they’re wasting no time getting their business done. According to fresh reports from England and Brazil, Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is inching closer to a high-profile move to Old Trafford — a move that could become the first major transfer of the summer.
Cunha has been a standout performer this season, notching up 14 goals and four assists in the Premier League despite Wolves' patchy form. His performances have been one of the few bright spots for the Midlands club, and a big reason behind their fightback under boss Vitor Pereira. Naturally, that kind of form hasn’t gone unnoticed. Clubs like Arsenal and Spurs were sniffing around back in January, but Cunha’s new contract with Wolves seemed to slam the door shut. Manchester United, however, never took their eyes off the prize — and it looks like their persistence is about to pay off.
According to Globo in Brazil, negotiations have made “significant” headway, with talks now in the final stages. Cunha has reportedly given the green light to a move, showing strong interest in joining the Red Devils. United are ready to pay around £62.5 million to trigger his release clause. The 25-year-old is seen as a perfect fit for what Manchester United need right now. Cunha’s ability to play as a No.10, as well as across the front line, fits the style Amorim prefers. He brings pace, flair, and most importantly, goals — all qualities United have been lacking in a misfiring attack.
Cunha isn’t the only name on United’s shortlist, though. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Manchester City youngster Liam Delap are also being monitored. But Cunha, who arrived at Wolves from Atletico Madrid for around £34 million in 2022, seems to be the one United are most serious about.
He’s scored 26 goals and provided 11 assists in 60 league appearances since arriving in England. With United reportedly willing to offload players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Casemiro, and even Alejandro Garnacho, they’ll be hoping those sales can help fund a summer overhaul — though getting top dollar for all of them could prove tricky. Still, landing Cunha early could set the tone for a summer of change at Old Trafford — and potentially bring some much-needed energy to a side desperate to get back on track.
