Juventus are on the verge of snapping up Canadian striker Jonathan David on a free transfer, with the move now all but confirmed. After weeks of speculation and back-and-forth negotiations, everything seems to have finally fallen into place — and it's now just a matter of time before the official unveiling.
Following Canada’s exit from the Gold Cup, talks between David’s camp and the Juventus hierarchy picked up pace. According to multiple Italian outlets, the discussions reached a key stage on July 1 when the player’s representatives and the club’s board resumed talks in Turin. Fabrizio Romano, who has been closely tracking the situation, finally dropped his signature confirmation. “BREAKING: Jonathan David to Juventus, here we go!” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Verbal agreement reached overnight on every detail with Canadian striker. Long-term deal agreed and Jonathan David’s set to travel for medical tests, formal steps to follow.”

The striker is expected to earn €6 million per season plus bonuses, as previously reported by Football Italia. The contract details were ironed out after weeks of discussions, and it looks like Juventus have managed to land their man without spending a penny on a transfer fee.
David, 25, departs Ligue 1 side Lille after a memorable five-year stint. He signed with them from Belgian club Gent back in 2020 for €27 million, and quickly became a key figure in their attack. His most memorable achievement at the French club came during the 2020–21 season, when Lille shocked the world by winning Ligue 1 ahead of Paris Saint-Germain. Over his time in France, David scored 109 goals in 231 appearances — including 25 in 48 games last season.
Despite his consistent form, a move to the Premier League never materialized. Chelsea and West Ham were both rumored to be interested, but Juventus remained the most consistent suitor and now look to have sealed the deal.
It’s a huge signing for the Bianconeri, who have been eager to add a dynamic and versatile attacker to their ranks as they prepare for the 2025–26 season under new management. With David’s ability to play across the front line and his knack for finding the net, Juventus fans will hope he can hit the ground running in Turin. The next steps involve a medical and final paperwork, but all signs suggest the move is done. Now, it’s just about waiting for the official photos.
