Jamie Carragher Slams 'Disgraceful' Spurs Trio in Fiery Sky Sports Rant After Anfield Thrashing

Following Tottenham’s abysmal showing at Anfield, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher didn’t mince his words, calling the performances of Tottenham’s midfield trio—Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Matar Sarr—nothing short of “disgraceful.”

Spurs headed into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal with a slender advantage, courtesy of a late Lucas Bergvall goal in the first leg. But every Spurs fan knew getting over the line at Anfield would be a massive challenge. What they didn’t expect, however, was for Ange Postecoglou’s side to roll over so easily. Liverpool utterly dominated, tearing through Tottenham and firing four past Kinsky to book their place in the final. Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk all found the net, setting up a Wembley showdown with Newcastle for the trophy.

For Spurs fans, the disappointment ran deeper than just missing out on a cup final—it was the manner of the defeat that stung the most. Tottenham barely put up a fight, failing to lay a glove on Liverpool across the 90 minutes. While no player covered themselves in glory, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was particularly scathing in his assessment of Spurs’ midfield trio.

Carragher slammed the lack of fight from Tottenham’s midfield, criticizing how easily they allowed Liverpool to take control. In his eyes, Spurs made it far too comfortable for the hosts, who cruised into the final without ever being truly tested. “When I look at those three midfield players, they're a disgrace," he said. "No matter who your manager is, you're playing a semi-final, you get on the ball, if you're a Tottenham man, first 15 minutes, half-an-hour, Liverpool will be on the ball but get after them, be aggressive. Even if you're camped in your own half, it was still so easy.” He added further, “We've criticised Ange Postecoglou - called him naive at times - that looks like a team that was picked before the game that said; 'right, we're going to make it difficult for Liverpool, powerful players, three proper central midfield players'. I thought that was a team to stop Liverpool, that's what most teams do, but those midfielders didn't even put a challenge in. It was shocking.”

With Spurs crashing out of the Carabao Cup, their dreams of finally ending an 18-year trophy drought now hinge on the FA Cup – where they take on Aston Villa in the fourth round on Sunday – and their Europa League campaign. But given their recent performances, optimism among the fanbase is at an all-time low. Many supporters fear this season is shaping up to be yet another tale of near misses and heartbreak – a frustrating cycle they’ve seen far too often. Something has to change.
