Former Chelsea and Arsenal Winger Willian Terminates his Contract With Conference League Champions Olympiacos

36-year-old winger Willian has announced his decision to terminate his existing contract with reigning Europa Conference League champions, Olympiacos. The former Chelsea and Arsenal winger joined the Greek club just six months ago after his contract with Fulham expired. However, after limited game time, the Brazilian is a free agent now.

Despite having a contract offer from Fulham tabled following the 2023-24 season, Willian decided to sign a one-year contract with Olympiacos. The Brazilian, earning a reported £100,000 a week at Olympiacos—owned by Nottingham Forest's Evangelos Marinakis—featured sparingly, making just three starts and eight appearances off the bench in the first half of the season. Even without featuring their big summer signing, the Greek giants are having an outstanding season. They're sitting pretty at the top of the Greek Super League standings and holding strong in 15th place in the Europa League.

After the announcement of Willian’s contract termination, Olympiacos wished the winger well for the future. “Olympiacos FC wishes all the best to Willian in the next steps of his massive career. He will always have a family in Piraeus,” an Olympiacos statement read. Willian added on social media: “Thank you Olympiacos. All the best for the upcoming challenges.” The 36-year-old forward spent the past two seasons with Marco Silva’s Fulham, scoring 10 goals in 67 appearances across all competitions. In August, Willian confirmed he was leaving Fulham, despite being offered a contract extension after his previous deal expired at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Willian first made his move to England in 2013, signing for Chelsea from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. He spent seven years at Stamford Bridge, racking up 339 appearances and winning the Premier League twice, before making a brief stint at Arsenal. His time in north London was short-lived, though, as he soon returned to Brazil to rejoin Corinthians. As of now, Willian’s future is still in limbo. The 36-year-old winger was a key contributor in Fulham’s success last season. So, he can still play at the top level. The only question is: will any Premier League clubs come calling?
