Chelsea Make €50m Push for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Ahead of Club World Cup Deadline

Chelsea aren’t taking no for an answer. After Borussia Dortmund shot down their opening €35m (£29.5m) bid for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, the Blues have come back swinging with an improved €50m (£42m) offer, pushing hard to get the deal done before tonight’s Club World Cup registration deadline.

According to Sky Germany, Dortmund have been holding out for a fee closer to €50-60m, and Chelsea’s latest bid now meets that bottom line. Moreover, Fabrizio Romano reports that "Chelsea have submitted new official bid for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to Borussia Dortmund right now. €50m proposal on the table after €35m bid rejected, as Fabrice Hawkins reports. Chelsea will try to get it done today; otherwise they will keep negotiating after the deadline."

However, Chelsea face a race against time, as they look to secure the 20-year-old’s signature in time for him to join them in the U.S. for the upcoming Club World Cup. Gittens himself is keen on the move and already has a verbal agreement with the club, having also reportedly agreed to a seven-year contract. The young winger had been on Chelsea’s radar since January and is high on a shortlist of eight or nine attackers they’re looking at this summer. With Jadon Sancho not returning to Stamford Bridge permanently, Chelsea are eager to reinforce their wide options – and Gittens is top of the list.

Why aren't Dortmund willing to let Jamie Gittens go before the Club World Cup?

Like Chelsea, Dortmund are also competing in the Club World Cup, and if Chelsea want Bynoe-Gittens eligible for their own campaign in the US, they’ll need to finalize everything by tonight. Furthermore, according to The Athletic, the German club feels his value could rise later in the summer if more clubs join the race. That could leave Chelsea sweating on whether to push again now or risk missing out entirely. The young winger has attracted attention from several Premier League sides, with Arsenal among the London clubs reportedly keeping tabs on Bynoe-Gittens. The Gunners' interest adds an extra layer of competition for Chelsea in their pursuit of the Dortmund talent – if the saga drags on.

If the Gittens deal doesn’t happen, the Blues might turn their attention to another young winger – Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho. There are whispers that the Argentine is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, but so far, Chelsea haven’t made an official approach. For now, though, all eyes are on whether Chelsea can convince Dortmund to part ways with one of their brightest young talents before the clock runs out.
