Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran Set for Medical Ahead of €77M Move to Al Nassr

Aston Villa and Al Nassr have struck a deal for Jhon Duran, with the Colombian striker set to make a €77 million switch to Saudi Arabia. The 21-year-old is expected to complete his medical in London on Thursday, taking him one step closer to sealing the move.

Jhon Duran was an unused substitute in Aston Villa’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Celtic on Wednesday. Following the win – which guaranteed Villa a direct spot in Last 16 of the Champions League – Unai Emery spoke about Duran’s imminent move to Al Nassr. He said, “I don't know exactly until everything is done. If he is leaving it is because it is a good deal for us. Because we have developed a young player in two years. It is not only club, it (has to work for) club, player and team... If Jhon Durán is leaving it is good for us, because they are paying good money… we have developed good players in two years and getting a good offer. I told you after West Ham, I want Jhon here. But what does he want?”

Earlier this month, West Ham tried their luck with a £57 million bid for Jhon Duran, but Aston Villa shut it down instantly—they weren’t about to strengthen a direct Premier League rival. From day one, Villa made it clear: if anyone wanted Duran, they’d have to come close to their €75 million valuation. Enter Al Nassr. The Saudi giants didn’t hesitate, putting a €77 million offer on the table, one Villa simply couldn’t refuse. Interestingly, Al Nassr had also sealed a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface but pivoted to Duran instead. Why? He’s three years younger and has already shown glimpses of a truly elite striker in the making.

Now, Jhon Duran's move to Al Nassr is all but done, with personal terms already locked in for a five-and-a-half-year contract. The Colombian striker has been a revelation for Aston Villa this season, netting 12 goals in 29 appearances—impressive considering he’s only started seven of those games. Since arriving from Chicago Fire for up to £17.75 million in January 2023, Duran has bagged 20 goals in 78 matches for the Villans, proving to be one of the Premier League’s most exciting young forwards.

At Al Nassr, he will be linking up with Stefano Pioli’s men, who are currently sitting fourth in the Saudi Pro League, trailing league leaders Al Hilal and second-placed Al Ittihad by eight points. The club, which finished as runners-up last season, boasts an elite squad featuring former Premier League stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mané, and Aymeric Laporte. Now, they’re banking on Duran’s potential to help close the gap and push for the title.
