Yashasvi Jaiswal Backtracks on Goa Move, Set to Stay With Mumbai

Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to stay put with Mumbai for the upcoming domestic season, bringing an end to speculation around his future. The 23-year-old opener, who had initially requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to move—reportedly to Goa—has now formally withdrawn his request.

In April, Jaiswal raised eyebrows when he submitted a letter to the MCA asking for an NOC. Reports suggested he was on the verge of signing with Goa and was even in line to captain them in domestic cricket. The MCA had granted the NOC, paving the way for his move. But in a sudden change of heart in May, Jaiswal wrote back to the association, asking to cancel the NOC. On Monday, the MCA’s Apex Council approved his withdrawal, officially confirming that Jaiswal will continue to represent Mumbai. “The Apex Council has approved the withdrawal of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) that had been earlier requested by Yashasvi Jaiswal to represent another state. He will continue to be available for Mumbai,” read the official statement.

Ajinkya Naik, president of the MCA, added: “Yashasvi has always been a proud product of Mumbai cricket. We have accepted his withdrawal NOC application and he will be available for Mumbai in the forthcoming domestic season.” In his letter to the MCA, Jaiswal wrote, “I the undersigned would request your goodself to consider my request in withdraw my NOC given to me as I had some family plans in shifting to Goa which for now has been curtailed! So I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season! I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to Goa Cricket Association!”

Jaiswal is currently with the Indian team in England but has been a strong performer for Mumbai in domestic cricket. He last featured for the side in a Ranji Trophy game at the BKC ground last season. So far, he has played 10 first-class matches, scoring 863 runs at an average of 53.93, with four centuries. In List A cricket, he averages 58 from 25 innings with five tons, and in T20s, he has scored 648 runs in 26 outings for Mumbai.

Meanwhile, fellow Mumbai cricketer Prithvi Shaw has received the green light to move to another state team. Arman Jaffer and Sidhant Adatrao have also taken NOCs and will be turning out for Pondicherry, alongside former Madhya Pradesh pacer Puneet Datey.
