Virat Kohli Surpasses 1000 IPL Runs Against Four Different Teams

Virat Kohli continues to set new benchmarks in IPL history, and in the IPL 2025 season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders, the RCB talisman became the first player to score 1000 or more runs against four different IPL teams, a feat unmatched by any other batter in the tournament’s history.

Before this game, Kohli had already crossed the 1000-run mark against Delhi Capitals (1057), Chennai Super Kings (1053), and Punjab Kings (1030). With just 38 runs needed against KKR to add them to the list, he got there in style, etching his name into yet another exclusive club. No other batter has managed to dominate this many teams so consistently across multiple seasons. Prior to Kohli’s latest milestone, only David Warner and Rohit Sharma had crossed 1000 IPL runs against two teams each. Warner has achieved the feat against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 1093 runs in 28 matches against KKR while playing for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit, on the other hand, has crossed the mark against KKR and Punjab Kings, accumulating 1070 runs in 34 matches against KKR while representing Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians.

Kohli has now doubled their achievement, proving once again why he is the most dominant batter the IPL has ever seen. His ability to consistently pile up runs against multiple teams over the years shows not only his longevity but also his adaptability. Regardless of the opposition, Kohli finds a way to make an impact. Kohli is already the all-time leading run-scorer in IPL history, with 8004 runs from 252 matches. No one has been as prolific as him in the league, and the numbers back it up. His eight IPL centuries are the most by any batter, and his record-breaking 2016 season, where he smashed 973 runs, remains untouched.

What makes his latest achievement even more special is the fact that he is still going strong after 18 consecutive IPL seasons. He is the only active player from the first-ever IPL match in 2008 between RCB and KKR to play in the 2025 opener between the same teams. As the season progresses, Kohli will undoubtedly set his sights on more records. Whether it’s extending his lead as the highest run-getter or setting new milestones, one thing is certain – Virat Kohli isn’t done making history yet.
