Tim David Blasts Fastest T20I Century by an Aussie in Third Match Against West Indies

Tim David lit up Basseterre with a jaw-dropping performance that left West Indies stunned. The Australian all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 102 off just 37 balls in the third T20I, helping Australia chase down a massive 215 and seal the five-match series with a commanding 3-0 lead.

He now holds the record for the fastest T20 International century by an Australian, beating the previous mark set by Josh Inglis, who needed 43 balls against Scotland in 2024. David reached his hundred in style, flicking Romario Shepherd to the boundary to complete the chase and bring up his milestone in just 37 balls. It also made him the fastest to a T20I hundred in a run chase among Test-playing nations, breaking England’s Liam Livingstone’s record of a 42-ball ton against Pakistan in 2021.

Moreover, His blistering ton came while batting at number five, making him the first Australian ever to hit a T20I century from a position lower than No. 4. Only one other batter has achieved such a feat in a chase while batting that low down the order—New Zealand’s Mark Chapman, who scored an unbeaten 104 against Pakistan in 2023. That puts David’s knock in elite company, and adds even more weight to a performance that will be remembered for a long time.

Coming in with Australia struggling at 61 for 3 in the sixth over, David didn’t just rescue the innings—he took complete control. He unleashed 11 sixes and six fours in his whirlwind knock and found a strong partner in Mitchell Owen. Together, the pair stitched an unbroken 128-run stand for the fifth wicket that turned the match on its head.

After the game, a visibly thrilled David spoke about the emotions behind his innings. “I don’t play for records, but certainly I didn’t think I’d get the opportunity to score a hundred,” he admitted. “It is your childhood dream to score a hundred for Australia, so that was definitely in the back of my mind.” He also credited his younger teammate for guiding him through uncharted waters. “I’m just really thankful I had Mitch Owen out there, who’s scored a couple recently. My younger teammate, but certainly his experience helped me through.”

At 29, and usually found batting at No. 6, this was only the sixth time in 56 T20Is that David batted at number five. But with this kind of statement performance, he might just have found a new home in the order.
