Significant relief for Indian cricket fans! Star batter and ODI Vice-Captain Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after suffering a spleen injury during the ODI series against Australia. The BCCI confirmed he is stable and recovering well under medical supervision in Sydney. Iyer will return to India once declared fit to fly, with a full recovery expected soon.
The Indian cricket fraternity and fans worldwide can finally exhale with relief. Team India's star middle-order batter and ODI Vice-Captain, Shreyas Iyer, has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after suffering a serious spleen injury during the recently concluded ODI series against Australia.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the encouraging update through an official medical statement, assuring supporters that Iyer's condition is stable and that he is now on the path to recovery.
The frightening incident took place during the third ODI in Sydney, when Shreyas Iyer made a valiant attempt at a diving catch. While the effort showcased his trademark commitment, it resulted in a severe abdominal impact.
The blow caused a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding, forcing immediate medical attention. As his condition deteriorated rapidly, Iyer was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) — a moment that sent shockwaves across the cricketing world.
Iyer's recovery so far is being credited to the prompt and expert action of the BCCI Medical Team and local doctors in Sydney. In collaboration with top specialists — including Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala — the team worked tirelessly to stabilize him.
The BCCI confirmed that the internal bleeding was detected early and controlled through a minor medical procedure, which proved crucial in ensuring his safety and quick stabilization.
Although being discharged is a considerable relief, Shreyas Iyer's rehabilitation journey continues in Sydney under strict medical observation.
"He is now stable and recovering well. He will remain in Sydney for further consultations and monitoring before returning to India."
Medical experts have advised that Iyer will only travel back to India once declared fit to fly. Early assessments suggest he will miss at least the next two months of action, including the upcoming ODI series against South Africa.
Cricket fans and fellow players have flooded social media with messages of support, sending prayers and well-wishes for Iyer's quick recovery. His fighting spirit and dedication to the game have made him one of India's most admired cricketers, and fans are eagerly waiting for his return to the field.
