Shaun Tait Has Been Appointed as New Pace Bowling Coach of Bangladesh

Shaun Tait is set for a long stint with Bangladesh cricket after being named the team’s new fast-bowling coach. The former Australian speedster has signed a contract that runs until November 2027, and there’s hope within the Bangladesh setup that his prior coaching experience across the subcontinent will bring tangible results.

Tait replaces Andre Adams, whose time with the team came to a close through a mutual agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Adams had only joined in March 2024 and was in charge during a key stretch that included last year’s T20 World Cup and the current build-up to the Champions Trophy. Tait is excited about the opportunity, describing it as an exciting time to be part of the Bangladesh setup. “It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like,” Tait said in a media release from the BCB.

But he’s also made it clear that he isn’t here just to guide youngsters. “This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group,” he added. His appointment comes as Bangladesh heads into a jam-packed calendar that includes plenty of T20s, mixed in with ODIs and Test matches. With the T20 World Cup looming in 2026 and the 50-over World Cup not far behind in 2027, Tait’s task will be to sharpen a promising but still-developing fast-bowling unit.

Tait isn’t exactly a stranger to Bangladesh cricket either. He worked with bowlers like Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed during his time with the Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League. His familiarity with the conditions and local talent could prove useful in helping the national side develop more consistency and punch with the ball. The Australian also brings a wealth of experience from a variety of roles around the world. Tait has had coaching stints with Pakistan, West Indies, and Afghanistan, and has worked in domestic leagues like the BBL, PSL, LPL, and English county cricket.

For those who remember his playing days, Tait was one of the most fearsome fast bowlers of his era – his raw pace was often described as electric. He played 59 times for Australia between 2005 and 2016, and was a key part of their 2007 ODI World Cup-winning squad. With Bangladesh looking to build a competitive pace attack ahead of major global tournaments, the hope is that Tait can channel his aggressive playing style into shaping a sharp, impactful bowling group. If his coaching history and approach are anything to go by, the next few years could be an exciting ride for Bangladesh’s quicks.
