Punjab Kings pulled off a historic win by defending just 112 runs against KKR in IPL 2025 — the lowest successful defense in IPL history. Yuzvendra Chahal’s brilliant 4-wicket haul and Marco Jansen’s crucial breakthroughs helped PBKS secure a thrilling 16-run victory in one of the season’s most dramatic matches.
In a thrilling IPL 2025 encounter, Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off one of the most remarkable victories in tournament history, defending a modest total of 112 runs against the star-studded Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With this win, Punjab not only secured two crucial points but also etched their name into the IPL record books by defending the lowest total ever in IPL history.
Chasing a seemingly easy target of 112, KKR’s innings never really got going. The troubles started early when Sunil Narine was dismissed for just 5 runs by Marco Jansen in the first over. In the very next over, Quinton de Kock fell to Xavier Bartlett for just 2, leaving KKR reeling at 7/2.
Skipper Ajinkya Rahane and young Impact Player Angkrish Raghuvanshi tried to steady the innings with a composed 55-run partnership, taking the score to a more promising position. However, just when KKR seemed to be finding their rhythm, Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a game-changing spell.
Chahal dismissed both set batters — Rahane and Raghuvanshi — in back-to-back overs, pushing KKR back to 72/4. Glenn Maxwell then joined the party, dismissing Venkatesh Iyer and reducing KKR to 74/5, setting up an intense finish.
Chahal wasn’t done yet. He returned to remove Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh on consecutive deliveries, sparking panic in the KKR camp. The score quickly slipped to 76/7, and then to 79/8 when Marco Jansen removed Harshit Rana.
Just when it seemed like Punjab had the game sealed, Andre Russell reignited hopes with a blistering counterattack. He smashed 16 runs in one over off Chahal, including two massive sixes and a four, bringing KKR right back into contention.
However, Punjab kept their composure. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Vaibhav Arora, and in the very next over, Marco Jansen bowled Andre Russell to wrap up the KKR innings at just 95 runs. Punjab Kings won the match by 16 runs, and in doing so, defended the lowest total ever in IPL history.
