MS Dhoni has once again written his name into the IPL history books, this time by becoming Chennai Super Kings' all-time leading run-scorer. The CSK icon surpassed Suresh Raina’s long-standing record of 4,687 runs on Friday (March 28), taking his tally to 4,699 runs in 236 matches for the franchise.
At 43, Dhoni continues to be a force for CSK, overtaking Raina, who accumulated his runs in 176 matches between 2008 and 2021. The gap between these two and the rest of CSK’s top scorers is significant – Faf du Plessis, now with Delhi Capitals, sits third with 2,721 runs, while current CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad follows with 2,433. Dhoni, the most-capped player in IPL history, has also racked up 22 half-centuries for CSK, smashing 224 sixes and 333 fours along the way.

While the milestone is remarkable, the match itself didn’t go CSK’s way. Chasing RCB’s 196/7, CSK found themselves in deep trouble, losing six wickets for just 80 runs by the 13th over. With the game slipping away, Dhoni walked in at No.9 instead of his usual No.7, a position he has favored in recent years. Though the result was beyond reach, Dhoni still gave the Chennai crowd something to cheer about, scoring an unbeaten 30 off 16 balls, including two towering sixes and three crisp boundaries. CSK eventually fell short, losing by 50 runs, but for the fans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the night wasn’t a complete disappointment. They got to see their former legendary captain in action.
