The IPL has seen some of the biggest names in world cricket light up stadiums across India for nearly two decades. With each season packed with elite talent and fierce competition, reaching personal milestones is never easy. But some stories take a bit longer to unfold — and that’s what makes them even more special.
Take Mitchell Marsh, for instance. The Aussie all-rounder made his IPL debut way back in 2010, but it’s taken him 15 years to finally notch up 1,000 runs in the tournament. He reached the landmark in IPL 2025 while playing for Lucknow Super Giants during their match against Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Marsh has battled more than just bowlers over the years — injuries have regularly stalled his progress — but this season, he’s looked sharp and hungry. He smashed a match-winning 72 off 36 balls earlier in the season and followed it up with a solid 45 off 36 against Delhi. In a career riddled with stops and starts, his consistency this year has been a breath of fresh air.
Marsh has been a bit of a journeyman in the IPL, turning out for six different franchises over the years — starting with Deccan Chargers in 2010, followed by Pune Warriors, SRH, and Delhi Capitals before finding a new home with LSG. Despite the long wait, he’s now part of a unique group of players who took more than a decade to reach the 1,000-run milestone.
Joining Mitch Marsh in this club is another Aussie all-rounder — Moises Henriques. Debuting in 2009 for KKR, Henriques showed early promise with over 100 runs in his first season, but couldn’t settle into one team for long. It wasn’t until he found some stability at Sunrisers Hyderabad that his game really took off. In 2016, he played a key role in SRH’s title-winning campaign. But form dipped in the seasons that followed, and after moving to Punjab Kings, he finally crossed the 1,000-run mark in 2021 — 12 years and 171 days after his debut.
Then there’s Rahul Tewatia — a name IPL fans will never forget after his heroics against KXIP in 2020. Most saw him as a bowling all-rounder until that unforgettable night when he smashed Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in a single over to help Rajasthan Royals pull off the highest run chase in IPL history at the time. That innings changed everything. Though Tewatia had been around since 2014, bouncing between franchises, his breakthrough came with RR, and he carried that momentum into future seasons. After being picked by Gujarat Titans in the 2022 mega auction, he cemented his role as a dependable finisher and recently completed his 1,000th run during a strong showing against Delhi Capitals.
