India Women’s team has been fined for a slow over-rate during their Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Australia. The ICC imposed a 5% match fee penalty after India fell one over short, even after time allowances. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sanction without dispute. As India eyes a comeback on the field, maintaining discipline off it will also be key moving forward.
Team India has been hit with a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate during their high-profile clash against Australia in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2025. The penalty was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after India was found one over short of the required rate, even after time allowances were taken into account.
The fine, levied under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, saw the Indian players penalised 5% of their match fees per over short, meaning a total deduction of 5% for this offence. The sanction was imposed by Michell Periera of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Australia, who dominated the fixture, continued their unbeaten run in the tournament, while India will now have to bounce back quickly, both on and off the field. Though the fine may not impact the standings, it highlights the growing focus on discipline and time management in women's international cricket.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sanction without any protest, thereby avoiding a formal hearing. This is not the first time teams have been penalised for over-rate issues in ICC tournaments, and the governing body continues to take a strict stance on maintaining match pace and broadcast schedules.
As India prepares for its next crucial fixture, it'll be keen to avoid any further disciplinary setbacks and focus on keeping their World Cup hopes alive.
