Festivities During SRH vs MI IPL Match Scaled Down as Tribute to Victims of Kashmir Terror Attack

The cricketing world will take a pause for reflection during Match 41 of IPL 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, as a mark of respect for the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a series of subdued measures to honor the lives lost in the tragic incident that shook the nation.

Before the match begins at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening, a minute’s silence will be observed. Players and umpires will wear black armbands as a sign of mourning and solidarity with the affected families. In a quiet and somber gesture, all pre-match entertainment elements have been called off for the evening. There will be no fireworks, cheerleaders, or DJ-led celebrations. A BCCI official confirmed the decision, saying, “Players and umpires will wear black armbands in today’s match. There will be one minute’s silence before the start of the game, and there will be no cheerleaders or fireworks.”

The decision comes after news of the attack in Pahalgam, where 28 people lost their lives in a senseless act of violence. The incident has left the entire country in mourning, and several players and cricketing personalities have voiced their grief and support for the victims’ families.

Virat Kohli took to Instagram to express his sorrow, writing, “Deeply saddened by the heinous attack in Pahalgam on innocent people. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength to families of all those who lost their lives and justice to be served for this cruel act.” Hardik Pandya echoed similar sentiments in his post: “Devastated by the news from Pahalgam. My thoughts are with those affected and their families.”

Even international voices joined in, with former England captain and Delhi Capitals mentor Kevin Pietersen sharing his thoughts on social media. “I see flags flying at half mast in Delhi today and rightly so. Despicable what happened in Kashmir yesterday! My thoughts with all those who lost their lives and their families and friends,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

As fans gather for the high-stakes IPL clash, the mood in Hyderabad will be more subdued than usual. Cricket may continue, but tonight, it will do so with a heavy heart and a quiet tribute to those who lost their lives in the most heartbreaking of circumstances.
